Over the course of this 10-week programstarting February 13th—teachers Emily Horn & Vince Horn, will guide you through a method of training called Mindfulness++.

We're excited to announce that we'll be joined live during this program by several awesome guest teachers & speakers. Each teacher will be joining us for a live webinar where they'll be offering some teaching just for us, as well as responding to questions from participants.

Confirmed guest teachers are:

Jack Kornfield trained as a Buddhist monk in the monasteries of Thailand, India and Burma. He has taught meditation internationally since 1974 and is one of the key teachers to introduce Buddhist mindfulness practice to the West. After graduating from Dartmouth College in Asian Studies in 1967 he joined the Peace Corps and worked on tropical medicine teams in the Mekong River valley. He met and studied as a monk under the Buddhist master Ven. Ajahn Chah, as well as the Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma. Returning to the United States, Jack co-founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, with fellow meditation teachers Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein and the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre, California.

Trudy Goodman Kornfield, Ph.D., is a vipassana teacher in the Theravada lineage and the Founding Teacher of InsightLA. She also teaches residential retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, CA, Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center, and Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, among others.

Oren J. Sofer has been practicing mindfulness meditation and Nonviolent Communication for two decades, and teaching nationally for the past ten years. His work integrating relational awareness into the field of communication stands at the cutting edge of interpersonal studies. He is a Collaborative Trainer at BayNVC, Senior Program Staff at the international leader of Mindfulness in Education, Mindful Schools, and author of the forthcoming book, The Three Foundations of Better Conversations: A Guide to Mindful Communication. Oren is also trained and certified in Somatic Experiencing, a form of trauma healing based in nervous system regulation. Oren holds a degree in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, is a graduate of the BayNVC North American Leadership Training and the Spirit Rock - IMS Vipassana Meditation Teacher Training Program.

Caroline Contillo is a writer and activist who first started practicing meditating in the Buddhist tradition in 2008. She has been teaching since she completed the Interdependence Project's Facilitator Training program in 2012. She has taught at a number of meditation centers, community spaces, and organizations, including regularly at MNDFL in New York City. Caroline hopes to create a space where people can learn to be with what's coming up in their lives in an open and engaged way. Her interests in science fiction, social justice, and music all come into play in her classes and dharma talks.

Michael W. Taft is a meditation teacher, bestselling author, and neuroscience junkie. As a mindfulness coach, he specializes in secular, science-based mindfulness training in groups, corporate settings, and one-on-one sessions. Michael is the author of several books, including the bestselling The Mindful Geek, Nondualism: A Brief History of a Timeless Concept, and Ego (which he co-authored), as well as the editor of such books as Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson and The Science of Enlightenment by Shinzen Young.

Circles: Human Powered Support ◎

Every participant will be part of a regularly meeting facilitated practice circle, led by course teachers, Vince Horn & Emily Horn. These groups will be made up of your peers, will be small & intimate, and will be offered at a variety of different times, for those in different timezones around the world. 🌍 🌎 🌏

Meditations: Designed for the Digital Age 🎧

We live and work in highly complex societies. Most of us are expected to hold a dizzying array of roles and operate in several contexts at once. But here's the thing: We're the same person moving through these different roles, having a single human experience. And meditation is, first and foremost, about navigating our human experience. What we've found is that the best way to bring meditation to life is to bring it into every area of your life.

As part of the program you'll get access to 5 new recorded meditations every other week. These meditations fall under the following categories:

  • Presence on the Job

In addition to the recorded meditations above you'll also have an opportunity to join in on live, weekly social meditation sessions.

Social Meditation is Like This 👥

Here's our claim: A meditation practice that is focused just on your personal experience is no longer sufficient for our time & place. It doesn't include the full richness of our relationships or help us with some of the skills we most need to thrive in the 21st century.

For the past several years we've been learning, and designing, different ways to practice socially. And what we've found is that these social techniques add a whole new dimension to practice. They extend awareness directly into the social field, and allow us to use things like "peer pressure" as a motivator for practice, rather than as something to be feared or avoided.

Meet the Teachers


Emily Horn & Vince Horn
Emily Horn & Vince Horn

Emily Horn & Vince Horn are partners who have spent their adult lives living, training & teaching together. Their training began in the Buddhist meditative tradition, where they've done nearly two years of combined retreat practice.

Emily Horn has been authorized as a meditation teacher by some of the largest meditation centers in the West, Spirit Rock Meditation Center and The Insight Meditation Society. Her core mentors in that tradition are Jack Kornfield & Trudy Goodman Kornfield.

Vince Horn has been authorized to teach in the pragmatic dharma lineage of Kenneth Folk and by Trudy Goodman Kornfield, whose contemplative training is in both the Insight Meditation and Zen traditions.

After 10 years of running the ground-breaking Buddhist Geeks project Vince & Emily are currently focused on creating deep training opportunities for the digital age with Meditate.io, raising their 2-year old son Zander, & appreciating their slow & focused lives in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.


 

Frequently Asked Questions


When does the program start and finish?
The 10-week long program starts on February 13th, 2017 and ends on April 23rd, 2017.
How long do I have access to the program?
The program will remain up for 5 months. This includes the 10 weeks while the live course is runninging and then roughly 10 weeks after that. During this window of time, all recorded learning material will be downloadable, so you're welcome to download anything you'd like to have access to later on. After 5 months the program will be taken offline.
What is social meditation like?
